In the mid-20th century there weren’t any good educational facilities for special children, hence (Late) Capitan Gull Mohammed took an initiative back then to educate special children (hard of hearing).

The Balochistan Deaf and Dumb Welfare Society was established in 1955 in this view.

Our Alamdar road, School for Deaf & Dumb was started on 1st march 1955.

In 1958  Mr. Berjur-jee-Patel donated a ten thousand square feet plot for building of the institute. The Institute was built and started providing education. The institute faced many difficulties in this field due to lack of funds.

The school was declared a ‘MODEL SCHOOL’ by the State Government Resolution No. ED/NOEDM/1154 on the 26th of March 20015.

The Balochistan Deaf and Dumb Welfare Society was registered under the societies Registration Act, 1960 and is managed by the elected committee since then.

This institute has a proud history of being a pioneer in the field of education of the hearing impaired.

The school has come a long way since its conception in 1955, from a horse cart (TANGA) to a fleet of vehicles that serve in pick and drop of the students, and from a mere 2 students in its first year to over two hundred children at present.

In 1981 Doctor Shella Patel donated forty four thousand square feet of land in a area called Kali Shabo. The then President of Pakistan General Zia ul Haq Shaheed donated one million rupees for the construction of the new building. This amount was invested with the help of a local bank for use later. As the area in Yazdan Khan road was very congested, the working committee devised a plan to shift the premises to Kali Shabo in 1998. The construction work that started in 1998 came to completion in December 1999

The school has been shifted to a new purpose built building since 2000. A new building  brought a new concept of speech development.
